Managed a portfolio of grants that supported efforts to strengthen arts, cultural and media organizations. Grant making specifically focused on preservation and promotion of West Africa’s cultural heritage.
January 2001-August 2006
Responsibilities included: Planning and administering the City of Los Angeles budget and resources for arts and culture; managed six divisions and 22 arts centers; provided funding support for over 200 cultural and heritage festivals, and supervised the City’s Cultural Grants Programs that provided funding support to cultural institutions and individual artists. Provided leadership for a staff of 84 full time employees and 100 part-time artists and teachers employed by the department.
August 1995-January 2001
Responsible for the implementation of the City of Dallas Cultural Policy. Supervised a staff of 83 administrative staff, cultural program managers. Managed the city’s Public Art Program and collection of art. Coordinated all cultural and facility planning initiatives. Served as liaison to the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. Developed Phase I programming for the construction of the Latino Cultural Center, designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta.
April 1990-August 1995
Managed all aspects of the city’s 13-channel non-profit cable television system, including a facility equipped with two video production studios.

Managed and supervised grant allocations for small and mid-sized community based cultural organizations.
